Color is Everywhere

Color has many roles when it comes to the fashion industry.  The biggest role that color plays in the industry is how it helps designers achieve success for designs.  Designers have to include color in their lines in order to achieve making a harmonious design.  Without color there wouldn’t be balance, proportion, emphasis, unity and rhythm.  There is also a lot of different categories and schemes of color.

When it comes to the categories of color there are four.  The first category that a lot of designers start out with, is the primary colors of blue, yellow, and red.  These colors make it so that there is a base to every piece of clothing making it upbeat, if any designer uses it.  The second category that designers use is called secondary colors.  Secondary colors are made by mixing different hues (the name to a color) like the color orange, violet, or green.  They are always popular on the runway.  The third category are called intermediate colors, which include a mix of primary and secondary colors like red-orange or yellow-green.  This color category in particular is commonly used with prints in the fashion industry.  The last category is called the neutral colors, which consist of grey, black, white, denim, and brown.  These are probably the most iconic category because the colors are used in almost every piece of fashion in some way.

On the other side of the spectrum, color schemes also have four different categories, but they are the way that colors match or look good in fashion pieces.  For example, the first category is called monochromatic, which means that only one color is used with different shades and tints.  This is category has just become a huge trend in the fashion world especially recently throughout New York Fashion Week.  The second category is called analogous which basically means combining two or three-color schemes, using the color wheel to complement each other.  An example of this would be having a model wear a deep yellow top and a lighter yellow skirt.  The third category is called complementary, which really speaks for itself because it uses opposite colors that complement each other.  The last and final scheme is called triad, which combines three colors on the color wheel equally apart from an another.

Overall, color can come in many different ways.  From crazy combinations on the runway, to the red carpet there is never a dull day in the world of color.  Without color in the fashion world everything would be monotone and boring.  Without knowing the color of the year how would be know what celebrities and designers will be basing looks on. Color is everywhere.
